Police are searching for a thief who swallowed several sets of diamond earrings in a jewellers.

The man is wanted in connection with more than £13,000 of jewellery during a heist at a shop in St Stephen's Shopping Centre in Hull, reports HullLive.

He is described as black, around 30, 5ft 5 in tall and slim with a shaved head and was wearing a dark-grey jacket with a furry hood, a blue long-sleeved top, blue jeans and light-grey trainers. He spoke with a southern accent.

Humberside Police have refused to reveal the name of the shop but HullLive reports there are only two jewellers in the centre - Hugh Rice and Luxe Hull by Hugh Rice.

The man is accused of "putting the rings on his fingers" before swallowing the 18-carat white gold diamond earrings and a pair of white gold earrings.

Two expensive rings were also taken.

The high-value theft took place on December 23.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We are looking for this suspect in connection with the theft of thousands of pounds worth of jewellery from a city centre jewellers in Hull.

"It happened at the shop in the St Stephen's Shopping Centre, on Ferensway, on Monday, December 23, just before 5pm.

"More than £13,000 worth of items was stolen, including a pair of 18-carat white gold diamond earrings, a pair of white gold earrings, a yellow 18-carat gold diamond ring and a platinum diamond ring."
