The United States is seeking its seventh title and building for the future as it kicks off its 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup quest on Sunday against Haiti in Kansas City. The Americans last won the Gold Cup in 2017 and are the second favorite (+138) behind 11-time champ Mexico (+120) to win it this year, according to William Hill Sportsbook. Many of the team's star players have club commitments, so coach Gregg Berhalter will use this event to assess young players, but he is still intent on winning it. The U.S. squad is 8-1-1 in its past 10 but faces a dangerous Haiti team that scored 10 goals in its last two games to qualify.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m ET. William Hill lists the USA as the -800 favorite (risk $800 to win $100) on the 90-minute money line in its latest USMNT vs. Haiti odds from William Hill Sportsbook, with Haiti the +1600 underdog. The over-under for total goals scored is 3.5. Before making any Haiti vs. USMNT picks or Gold Cup 2021 predictions, you have to see what renowned soccer insider Martin Green has to say

Why you should back USMNT

The young players will be fired up to shine on a national stage, and there is plenty of talent on the American side. Forwards Gyasi Zardes and Paul Arriola and midfielders Sebastian Llletget and Kellyn Acosta will feature for the Americans. They have a combined 29 goals in 146 caps, while defenders Reggie Cannon and Walker Zimmerman have 32 appearances between them. Beyond that, the players will be trying to catch Bethalter's eye with Qatar 2022 on the horizon.

The U.S. squad's only blemishes in its last 10 are a 1-0 loss to Switzerland and a scoreless draw with Wales. Both made the knockout stage at Euro 2020. It outscored its foes 33-7 in those 10 matches, and it faces a Haiti team it has not lost to in its last eight (3-5-0). Daryl Dike and Nicholas Gioacchini, who have a combined three goals in six total appearances, and defenders Donovan Pines and Sam Vines are among the young stars hoping to secure their futures.

Why you should back Haiti

Haiti is one of two Concacaf teams, along with Mexico, that doesn't have a losing record (6-6-5) against the USA. The Grenadiers are powered by the 1-2 punch of Frantzdy Pierrot and Duckens Nazon, who have combined for 13 goals in 2021. Nazon had four in a 10-0 win against Turks and Caicos last month, and Haiti outscored two foes 10-2 earlier this month to qualify for this tournament. Pierrot had a hat trick in a 4-1 win against Bermuda to clinch the qualification.

The speedy attack could take advantage of a young defense trying to find its way. Derrick Etienne plays a key role in midfield, and he should be familiar with the American players after several years in MLS, currently with the Columbus Crew. The Haitians will try to rekindle the fire that led them to the 2019 semifinals, where they lost to eventual champ Mexico in extra time. They are 0-5-3 in the past eight against the USA, but they have held the American to nine goals.
