EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Texas Tech Health El Paso received a grant of $55 thousand to enhance training opportunities for medical assistant students.
According to Texas Tech Health El Paso, the grant comes courtesy of Texas Mutual Insurance Company and will help as they have partnered with Workforce Solutions Borderplex and El Paso Community College, Southwest University and Western Technical Institute, to help students with their clinical internships.
Jeremiah Bentley, Vice President of Marketing and Community Affairs at Texas Mutual, expressed the company's commitment to the initiative.

"So today, we had the chance to present a grant to support the programs of Texas Tech Health Science Center here in El Paso in partnership with Workforce Solutions Borderplex and a lot of other partners," Bentley said. "We're really happy to be able to be here and to help create additional access to health care here in the region of El Paso, which is very important to us."
According to Texas Tech, Texas Mutual has a history of supporting workforce development across the state with reportedly having awarded over $4 million to 66 nonprofits in Texas. These awards focus on training the current and future skilled workforce in safe work practices, particularly in high-risk industries, and creating pathways for in-demand middle-skill jobs.
The announcement was made during a press conference Tuesday morning held at the Medical Science Building II at the Texas Tech Health El Paso campus, located at 137 Rick Francis St.
