Greek gymnast Lefteris Petrounias won his 8th gold medal after delivering an exceptional performance in the rings at the 2025 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Leipzig, Germany, on Friday evening.

The Greek star, who has come to be known as “The Lord of the Rings,” shared gold with Turkey’s Adem Asil, both athletes earning 14.400 points.

The 34-year-old phenom has won a total of 16 medals in all major competitions, including an Olympic gold in 2016. The “Lord of the Rings” has now amassed a total of thirteen gold medals in major international competitions, including his victories at three World Championships (2015, 2017, 2018), the 2015 European Games, and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. In the qualifying stage, Petrounias achieved 14,700 points and remained unmatched throughout the men’s qualification rounds, earning him a well-deserved spot in the coveted top eight.

Lefteris Petrounias’ latest triumph in Leipzig brings the total number of medals won by Greek artistic gymnastics at the European Men’s and Women’s Championships to 33.
